Cuestiones Éticas en la Voracidad Editorial

| dc.description.abstract | La aparición de las revistas científicas de acceso abierto (open access) ha sido un primer paso para que surgiera el fenómeno de la voracidad editorial (predatory publishing). El interés inicial por facilitar el acceso a los contenidos de las publicaciones científicas ha llevado a que aparecieran empresas que exigen el pago por publicación para justificar el acceso abierto a sus contenidos. Algunas empresas han encontrado en esta política editorial una manera de obtener beneficio económico y han desarrollado estrategias dedicadas a captar autores y a ofrecer beneficios en prestigio curricular como facilidad para publicar o sugerir colaboraciones como revisor o como miembro del comité editorial. Estas estrategias han captado a profesionales que solo al colaborar de buena fe entendieron que el objetivo editorial era económico y no científico y a otros que han visto en ellas un camino alternativo para potenciar su curriculum vitae. Esta política editorial ha modificado el escenario de la publicación científica ya que el proceso de control de calidad pierde relevancia si es posible pagar por publicar. Para intentar evitar los daños de esta voracidad editorial se debería replantear el escenario de acceso abierto que exige pago por publicación. También puede ser prudente exigir que los autores que pagan por publicar incluyan entre los conflictos de interés cuánto ha costado la publicación y cómo se ha conseguido la financiación y que en el curriculum vitae se señale de manera específica qué publicaciones han exigido pago por publicación y qué méritos se deben a revistas que exigen este pago. | es_VE |
| dc.description.abstract1 | The emergence of open access scientific journals was a first step to the emergence of predatory publishing. The initial interest in easing free access online to scientific publications led to the emergence of companies that promote pay for publishing (gold open access) to justify free access to their contents. These companies eventually modify their objectives from free access to knowledge to economic benefit. This way, they developed propaganda strategies to capture authors and to offer them possible benefits in curricular prestige such easy publishing or collaborations as a reviewer or as a member of the editorial committee. These strategies deceived many professionals who received these invitations when they understood that the purpose was not scientific but economic but for many others were a alternative way to improve their prestige. This strategy has modified the scene of scientific publications because pay for publishing minimizes the quality control of published papers. To avoid the damages caused by this predatory publishing, it may be appropriate to redefine the scenario of open access journals that require a publication fee, and it could be adequate at that open access authors include as a conflict of interest the cost of publishing and the origin of their financial support, and a specific appendix should be included s well in curricula including both the articles published in open access journals and any editorial merit associated to journals that require publication fees. | es_VE |
