dc.description.abstractEl presente trabajo espera delinear los alcances del republicanismo venezolano del siglo XIX. Dentro del contexto de las reformas modernizadoras emprendidas por el caudillo liberal Antonio Guzmán Blanco, a partir de 1870, y por las cuales pasaría a la historia como el “Autócrata Civilizador”, se intentará un análisis de aquellos factores que impidieron su pleno despliegue, así como de la solución ensayada para paliarlos: el disimulo, la asunción de sus formas exteriores —por ejemplo la etiqueta— para al menos aparentar la modernización anhelada.es_VE
