Analysis of experimental transport traffic in a satellite network

Abstract

Nowadays, satellite networks are a solution for rural and remote Internet connection where traditional terrestrial Internet urban access is not deployed, mainly, because of its cost. In this article we present results from the observation, analysis and characterization of transport traffic in a British Telecom’s VSAT Network (BT Latam). We have stressed our study on the Performance Enhancing Proxy for transport traffic, which improves performance when downloading information to VSAT’s terminals. This article represents the first of a series of unprecedented studies in Venezuela, and to the best of our knowledge, in Latin America.
