dc.description.abstractEste trabajo presenta una reseña de la literatura sobre la relación entre la inversión extranjera directa (IED) y el medio ambiente. Una recopilación de trabajos de los últimos quince años ha revelado un claro movimiento de investigación direccionado hacia la naturaleza context-dependent de los efectos ambientales de la IED. Este movimiento se caracteriza por la diversidad de relaciones observadas como el efectivo comportamiento ambiental de empresas subsidiarias, la relación entre el nivel de influencia de la IED sobre estándares ambientales y el grado de corruptibilidad de gobiernos locales, el origen de la IED, la influencia de características socioeconómicas locales sobre el resultado ambiental de la IED, así como el efecto de la presencia de organizaciones no gubernamentales ambientales.es_VE
dc.description.abstract1This paper presents a review of the literature on the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and environment. A survey of studies of the years 2000 showed there has been a clear movement of research focused on the “context-dependent” nature of the environmental effects of FDI. Such movement has been characterized by a diversity of observed relationships such as the effective environmental performance of subsidiaries against what was planned by the head office, the relationship between the level of influence of FDI on environmental standards and the degree of corruptibility of local governments. Also, the origin of FDI as a determining factor of its environmental quality, as well as the effect of the presence of NGOs.es_VE
